The Schwarzschild Jewelers store in Carytown is moving after 54 years.
The location at 3124 W. Cary St., which opened Nov. 5, 1954, will move a few doors down to the spot last occupied by Carytown Wine & Beer at 3144 W. Cary. But it will remain in the Cary Court Shopping Center.
Carytown Wine & Beer closed in February.
The jeweler is tentatively scheduled to open the new store Dec. 11. The current store remains open.
Schwarzschild owns three stores in the Richmond area. Its first store opened downtown in 1897.
Susan Morgan, a spokeswoman for the chain, said the new Carytown store, at 4,000 square feet, will be about three times larger than the current one and will hold double the inventory.
It will carry several new product lines and have a gift department.
"It will be much more like our county stores," she said.
The chain's two other stores, in the Alverser Plaza in Chesterfield County and at Short Pump Town Center in western Henrico County, are larger and more modern.
But Morgan said the new location would keep its Carytown spirit.
"That we've been at the same location for so long is a sign of how good Carytown has been to us," said Linda Hendricks, an employee at the Carytown store. Contact Louis Llovio at (804) 649-6348 or LLLovio@timesdispatch.com.
