Richmond Ford has bought the Lincoln Mercury franchise from the Pearson automotive group.
The deal was finalized this week and the dealership has moved the vehicles from the Pearson lot on West Broad Street in Henrico County several miles east to 4600 West Broad St. in Richmond.
According to Richmond Ford's new-car manager, George Byrnes, the dealership is getting a combined 73 Lincolns and Mercurys from Pearson.
Dealership President Ronald F. Kody said $3 million in parts and vehicles was brought over from Pearson. He would not comment on the sale price or how many employees might move.
The purchase is part of a shift in Virginia's automotive landscape as dealers close or consolidate to offset plummeting sales and decreasing traffic.
As of late last month, the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association reported that 15 new-vehicle dealerships closed so far this year. The state, as of Nov. 21, had 549 new-car and -truck dealerships.
Pearson will continue to sell Mazdas from the site. But it could look for other brands to sell there. Pearson officials have not commented. -- Louis Llovio
