David Saunders of Madison + Main was named Ad Person of the Year last night for his work bringing together the advertising community "both online and in reality."
The Martin Agency also swept at last night's Richmond Show, winning 36 awards including three best-in-show honors.
The event, sponsored by the Richmond Ad Club, is an annual awards show that recognizes the best work done by the area's advertising agencies.
Saunders, president of the Madison + Main agency in downtown Richmond, has organized happy hours for the ad community and put together a new media seminar last month.
Madison + Main specializes in incorporating new media and social-marketing technologies, such as Facebook and Twitter, into advertising. The agency also does traditional advertising.
Among its clients are Getloaded.com, Chesterfield County Public Schools, American Civil War Center and Uppy's Convenience Stores.
Saunders said last night that advertising is a tight-knit community and agencies need to work together.
"You guys have been supportive and we've even done business with many of you and we've competed against many of you. We've won some and we've lost some, but we've really enjoyed the ride," he said.

In all, 98 awards were handed out from about 400 entries that were submitted.
The awards were presented in four categories of work: design, interactive, advertising and production. There also is a category for student work.
There are several awards within each category based on different factors.
Winners received gold, silver or bronze cannonballs. The top work in each category won a best-in-show award.
Martin won best-in-show in three categories.
In the advertising category, it won for its comic-book themed poster series for homeless-advocacy group Homeward. In the design category, Martin was honored for its X Games "This Side Up" ad. It received the award in the interactive category for its work on BF Goodrich's sponsorship of the SCORE Baja 1,000 race.
There was no best-in-show for the production category.
"While we saw a strong showing from The Martin Agency, there was some equally great work coming from many of the smaller but highly-talented shops," said Sharif Ewees, the outgoing president of the Richmond Ad Club.
Other big winners, were WORK Labs, which won four gold cannonballs, and Siddall, which won three.
The best-in-show award in the student category went to VCU Brandcenter students for their work on DiGiorno for One pizza.
About 250 people attended the show at LaDiffrence home-furnishings store in downtown Richmond.
