Kings Dominion plans to build the tallest and fastest roller coaster of its type on the East Coast next spring, the park announced this morning.
The $25 million price tag for the Intimidator 305 roller coaster will be the theme park’s biggest single capital investment in its 35-year history.
Intimidator 305’s lift hill will tower 305 feet at its highest peak — close to the height of the park’s landmark Eiffel Tower.
The coaster takes its name from stock car racing’s Dale Earnhardt and the trains will be fashioned after Earnhardt’s signature black car.
After ascending, the Intimidator 305’s trains will descend 300 feet at an 85 degree-angle and thunder along the track at speeds in excess of 90 mph during its three-minute race to the finish.
Dale Earnhardt Inc. will partner with Cedar Fair Entertainment Co., the parent company of Kings Dominion, to bring the massive coaster to life.
