The Richmond-based Martin Agency has laid off 24 people as it deals with the financial downturn.
The layoffs were prompted by an "erosion of spending from its clients in the past six to eight weeks," Dean Jarrett, a spokesman for the Shockoe Slip advertising agency, said in a statement today.
Two of the layoffs were in the agency's New York office and 22 were in Richmond. They amount to about 5 percent of Martin's workforce.
Martin Agency clients include Alltel, GEICO, NASCAR, American Cancer Society, UPS and Walmart.
