RichTech honored a Genworth Financial executive last night during its annual awards gala for inspiring young people to pursue high-tech careers.
Scott McKay, chief information officer and senior vice president at Genworth, won the 2010 Chairman's Award at the Technology Stars gala at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.
Through VirginiaFIRST, the Science Museum of Virginia and the Virginia Technology Intern Program, McKay has worked with students ranging from early education to college.
The Chairman's Award is presented to a person or organization that has made a significant impact on the growth of technology in the region or the advancement of the area as a center for technology innovation.
"During the last year, we've watched the economy turn brighter, and so, too, have central Virginia's technology companies," said RichTech Executive Director Chip Farmer.
Other people and organizations honored were:
•Mark Herzog, executive director of the Virginia Biotechnology Association, received the IBM Community Catalyst Award.
•Richmond Area Program for Minorities in Engineering received the Computer Resource Team Educator Award.
•TBL Networks received the Cherry Bekaert & Holland Emerging Company Award.
•Altria Client Services Inc. received the PLANIT Technology Group Technology Builder Award.
•Capital One received the VACO Technology Innovation-Financial & Professional Services Award.
•MedVirginia Inc. received the Cisco Systems & Packet360 Technology Innovation-Healthcare Award.
•Owens & Minor Inc. received the CSC Leasing Technology Innovation-Manufacturing, Distribution and Retail Award.
