The unemployment rate declined in the Richmond metropolitan area in September, the Virginia Employment Commission reported today.
The region’s jobless rate was 7.5 percent in September, down from 7.9 percent in August, according to new VEC figures that are not adjusted for seasonal factors. The local rate also was down from 7.8 percent in September 2009.
Unemployment rates also declined in Virginia’s other metropolitan areas from August to September, according to the VEC data.
Virginia’s overall unemployment rate fell to 6.8 percent in September from 6.9 percent in August, but the September rate was the same as it was the same month a year ago, according to figures released in October by the VEC.
The national rate held steady at 9.6 percent in September.
