Capital One sets philanthropy program

Capital One Financial Corp. has launched the second annual "Investing for Good Award" philanthropy program.

Grants up to $150,000 and volunteer efforts over a two-year period will go to four local nonprofit organizations to advance community development, education and financial literacy among low- to moderate-income communities in the greater Richmond area.

Eligibility is open to organizations serving the greater Richmond area. Letters of intent must be submitted online by 5 p.m. May 27. Capital One will review all submissions and invite full applications online by June 30. Finalists will be notified in September. The final award announcements will be made at a community reception in October.

Campaign provides meals for food bank

Puritan Cleaners' 100,000 Meals for Kids in Central Virginia campaign for the Central Virginia Food Bank raised 70,247 meals in 2011 through donated food and monetary contributions. The campaign was held from April 17-30. All donations were delivered to the CVFB.

Tri-Club Woman's Club tabulates donations

Members of Tri-Club Woman's Club, GFWC, contributed 3,727 volunteer hours, $9,820 of donations such as food items, lap blankets and helmet liners, and $10,847 in monetary donations in 2010.

Recipients include McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fisher House, Ronald McDonald House, Ridge Elementary School, Crestview Elementary School, Prevent Child Abuse Virginia, Maymont Foundation, HOBY Foundation, Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, Camp Comfort Zone, LAMB's Basket, Autism Awareness, Operation Christmas Child, World Food Day, Southern Sudan Project, Plan USA, UNICEF, Operation Smile, USO Project, American Red Cross and Safe Harbor

Tri-Club is a member of Lee District, GFWC Virginia and the General Federation of Woman's Clubs, one of the world's largest and oldest woman's volunteer community-service organizations.
