One of the two units at Dominion Virginia Power’s North Anna nuclear power plant neared full power today after repair of a mechanical problem.
Figures provided by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission showed Unit 1 at North Anna was operating at 99 percent of capacity this morning.
The NRC said a leak was detected Monday morning in an instrument air line in Unit 1, and the unit was manually taken from 100 percent of operating capacity to 4 percent while repairs were made.
The repairs were quickly completed, and workers began powering Unit 1 back up, NRC spokesman Joey Ledford said. Unit 1 was operating at 8 percent Tuesday.
Unit 2 at North Anna, some 45 miles northwest of Richmond, remains operating at full power.
