Blockbuster is shutting down three more Richmond-area stores, leaving the company with only two here.
The Dallas-based video rental chain's stores at 2061 Huguenot Road and 13718 Hull Street Road in Chesterfield County and 6104 Brashier Blvd. in Mechanicsville are liquidating inventory. The shops are scheduled to close Feb. 19, according to store employees.
These are just the latest local Blockbusters to shut down since the company filed for bankruptcy in 2010 and was since bought by Dish Network Corp.
At one point, Blockbuster had about 20 area locations.
The remaining stores are at 9503 W. Broad St. in Henrico and at 3107 Boulevard in Colonial Heights, according to the chain's website. Blockbuster did not respond to requests for comment.
Blockbuster has had a tough time in recent years as shoppers turned from traditional video stores to services such as Redbox and Netflix for movies. Blockbuster has introduced kiosks and a mail service to remain competitive.
