Arms reaching skyward, Cody Beaton leaps into the air with abandon, soaring across the stage in utter freedom. To the audience, it appears effortless.
However, to achieve that perfection, Beaton and two other Richmond Ballet apprentices have spent endless hours of hard work in dance classes and rehearsals.
“They put everything into it,” said Malcolm Burn, artistic associate and ballet master for the company. Beaton and Julie Smith, both 20, and Whitley Saffron, 21, recently finished their first of two seasons as apprentices.
