Main Art in the Fan is showing the work of Richmond artist/activist Noah Scalin. The exhibit is taking place in an experimental outdoor gallery located on the Lombardy Street side of the Main Art building.
Scalin's work depicts a large-scale human skull comprised of the 50 United States. Scalin hand cut the states from large pieces of paper, then glued the paper to the building and sealed it with varnish.
In 2007, Scalin committed to creating one skull a day for a year. Three hundred sixty-five days later, he had fashioned skulls with everything from shoes and condoms to Band-Aids and a bed sheet. In 2008, he published "Skulls," a picture book of his works.
The exhibit runs through April 22 at 1537 W. Main St. Because the gallery is outdoors, the work may be viewed 24 hours a day.
