Table Talk: Specials on tap for New Year's Eve and Day

The Osaka restaurant group is offering New Year's Eve specials in addition to the regular menus:

At Wild Ginger, 3734 Winterfield Road, Midlothian, (804) 378-4988: 10-ounce grilled filet mignon with truffle cream; lobster tail with spicy Thai peanut sauce; smoked duck breast with sherry shallot reduction; and seared scallops on a seaweed and wild rice bed with ginger bearnaise.

Sushi-O, 1228 Alverser Plaza, Midlothian, (804) 897-9878, will feature duck confit over white bean cassoulet with white truffle oil and grey sea salt, and salmon sate with risotto cake and ginger Grand Marnier sauce.

Osaka Sushi at River Road, 5023 Huguenot Road, (804) 288-8801, features shrimp and prosciutto fried rice and crabmeat-stuffed rainbow trout with curry sauce.

A $45-per-person, three-course New Year's Eve menu at Chez Foushee, 203 N. Foushee St., will offer an entrée choice of grilled rib-eye with truffled mushroom sauce and rosemary roasted Yukon gold potatoes or jumbo lump crab cakes with Hollandaise, Smithfield country ham and rice pilaf.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 9200 Stony Point Parkway, (804) 272-7755, starts the party early tonight, then continues Friday and Saturday with regular menu offerings plus these specials:

Veuve Clicquot, Brut Champagne Yellow Label NV, available by the glass for $25; and entrées of filet mignon and crab-stuffed shrimp; lobster tail and New York strip steak and giant shrimp.

Capital Ale House is featuring vertical tastings at its four locations from 5-8 p.m. New Year's Day. That's when you taste different years of the same beer from one brewery. Each vintage will be a 3-ounce pour, and the last taste will be in a glass to keep.

The new casual restaurant Mainstream, 1731 W. Main St., is planning a seafood night from 4-10 p.m. Jan. 8.

Outer Banks Seafood Co. co-owner Greg Dickerson said the restaurant has responded to customer requests for better pricing and more choices.

New on the menu, Dickerson said, are seafood combination plates for less than $20, "locals' favorites" (tuna, flounder, mahi, salmon, scallops, shrimp, oysters) for $16.95, a 7-ounce steak special for $12.95, and burger and sandwich options starting at $7.95.

Chick-fil-A is adding a Spicy Chicken Biscuit to its breakfast menu.

Patrons who make a reservation before Saturday at www.getspicychicken.com will get a free sneak taste during nationwide launch week, Jan. 3-8. Reservations can be redeemed during breakfast hours, typically 6:30-10:30 a.m.

The spicy biscuit will cost $2.25 a la carte, and also can be part of a breakfast meal.

Chick-fil-A's Spicy Chicken Sandwich was launched in June.
