Music students at the Specialty Center for the Arts at Thomas Dale High School have received top honors by being selected for All State music ensembles. Top musicians in each of Virginia's 16 music districts compete by audition for seats in the All Virginia Band, All Virginia Chorus and All Virginia Orchestra. Students who were selected for the All Virginia Band are Ashley Pitzer (bassoon), Lauren Slagle (clarinet), and John Crowder (trombone). This is Crowder's second selection to the All State Band and Pitzer has been selected for three years and earned first chair bassoon this year. Josh Rhodes (baritone sax) placed as an alternate.
Vocalists Evan Nunery (bass), Zach Rogers (bass) and Wes Dunnavant (tenor) were selected for the All Virginia Chorus. Vocalists Danielle Cavazos, Rachel Arnold and Chelsea Bolling are alternates for the All Virginia Chorus. Dani Meeker (upright bass) and Justin Mills (violin) are also alternates for the All Virginia Orchestra.
The All Virginia Band and Orchestra concerts will be April 4 at 1:30 p.m. at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria. The All Virginia Chorus concert will be at Massaponax High School in Fredericksburg on April 25 at noon.
