If you thought that after Black Friday was over the sales would slow down, you would be seriously mistaken. The holiday sales this year are better than ever.
Competition among stores is truly a beautiful thing, with each competing for your holiday budget. It's a given that you should expect to get from 20 percent to 50 percent off everything you buy right now.
With so many sales, it can be hard to know what to wait until after Christmas to purchase. You'll need a strong strategy as you navigate these last shopping days of December.
To begin, start focusing on resort collections, but refuse to settle for anything less than 20 percent off. Resort collections (sometimes called cruise collections) are the in-between winter-spring collections that offer a first glimpse of spring colors, in addition to attire for those traveling to warmer climates in the colder months.
Bright vibrant tops, bags and bangles; these pieces offer a great dose of color and excitement to your wardrobe. Neon lime, bright blue, royal purple and mango are some of the standout colors. Marc by Marc Jacob's Hot Dot Bangle in blue and black and DVF's Blaire top in mango are great examples.
As for the discount, these collections get caught up in the holiday sales, and as a result, websites such as Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Saks are offering a discount each day. This is the best time to snag these pieces before the hot sales cool off.
It's also important to think ahead and remember that once we're in January in true bleak winter days, you'll want some exciting details to incorporate into your wardrobe.
When to wait is key. Unless you're seeing fall/winter clothing and accessories for more than 50 percent off, the rule is to wait until after Christmas. The exception to that rule is the sell-out factor. If you're seeing very limited sizes in something you love, then break the rule and buy now.
Otherwise, if the sizes available suggest it's not going anywhere, hold off and see if a further reduction is made after Christmas. Right after Christmas, it's time to begin looking for great jeans, tees, sweaters and boots on sale, but keep your focus to essential pieces at this point.
The strategy is to think ahead to pieces that can be worn next season as well as this season. Believe it or not, we are heading into spring when Christmas is over, and there will be a whole new set of style obstacles to tackle.
