"I come from a long line of food pushers," laughed Midlothian resident Lauren Wilson. "My family always celebrated with food. The Medi-Weightloss Clinics® program has taught me how to change the way I look at food and stop that cycle."
A busy wife and mother to a four-year-old son and 16-month- old daughter, Lauren started at Medi-Weightloss Clinics in Glen Allen in early January. By mid-April, she had lost an amazing 41 pounds.
"My weight always went up and down," she explained. "After my second child, it wasn’t easy to shed the extra pounds. I had tried other diets and programs — many times — but after reaching my goal, I would slip back. The problem was that I never changed my eating habits. That was what motivated me to go to Medi-Weightloss Clinics — their program of healthy weight loss and long-term success taught me how to change my nutritional behavior."
Lauren’s impressive weight loss is not unusual at Medi-Weightloss Clinics, which have been so successful, there are now two area locations: the attractive flagship in Glen Allen and a brand new facility in Midlothian.
"Patients receive personalized wellness programs and preventative care—completely unique to Medi-Weightloss Clinics," explained Dr. Thomas Mead, who, along with Dr. Danny Shaban, opened both clinics. "And furthering our success, we work with the patients’ regular physicians, keeping them informed of patients’ progress."
"Because it’s based on the latest medical knowledge and technology, our wellness program can help with medical conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol levels and blood pressure," pointed out Nurse Practitioner Nicole Bentivenga, one of the many skilled medical professionals at Medi-Weightloss Clinics.
That highly personalized care drew Tiana O., a young single mother dealing with a 14-year-old son—and multiple sclerosis.
"It’s been hard finding the right weight loss program," she admitted. "I tried so many diets and always thought the multiple sclerosis was at fault. When I learned about Medi-Weightloss Clinics, I researched it online and went to see the new one in Midlothian."
Now approaching her goal weight, Tiana looks forward to a special reward: best friend Melody Smith of Twilight Images has offered to take a series of portraits of her newly-slim friend.
"Also, my regular physician is very pleased. I’m confident I can maintain the loss because for one thing, now I read food labels all the time. It’s a lifestyle change that Medi-Weightloss Clinics taught me."
Most patients average a weight loss of three to five pounds a week. "It’s a healthy loss, with a high percentage of fat," continued Bentivenga, pointing to the innovative Tanita scale, just one of the high-tech instruments aiding in successful weight loss and maintenance. "The scale measures weight in terms of fat, muscle, water and metabolic rate. Each week, we’ll see how much weight of each you have lost."
For patients like Tiana and Lauren, both nearing the maintenance phase, the wellness program at Medi-Weightloss Clinics has given them the tools for continued success.
"It has changed the way I look at food," confirmed Lauren, "and an additional benefit, my family is eating healthier—and it’s actually cut down on grocery bills!"
