The excitement of the Academy Awards really begins when Hollywood's elite arrives at the Kodak Theatre to strut in their designer fashions down the red carpet.
The pre-show procession sets the stage for the night's glamour, with reporters asking, "Who are you wearing?" while throngs of movie fans press against the velvet ropes hoping to get a glimpse of their favorite screen star.
Though the "red carpet treatment" may be an ancient tradition of honoring dignitaries, the one-upmanship production values of Tinseltown create a media circus illuminated by searchlights and countless camera flashes.
The pre-ceremony coverage begins at 2 p.m. today on E! with its "Countdown to the Red Carpet: The 2012 Academy Awards," followed at 6 p.m. with Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic hosting the entertainment network's "Live from the Red Carpet: The 2012 Academy Awards."
At 4 p.m., the TV Guide Network offers a one-hour preview highlighting the Oscar nominees; at 5 p.m., Maria Sansone and Marc Istook host the live "Academy Awards Red Carpet Countdown." Up next at 6 p.m., the 90-minute "Academy Awards Red Carpet with Chris Harrison" has the TV Guide host speaking candidly with stars from the nominated films. And then at 7 p.m., ABC starts the official party of "Oscar's Red Carpet Live."
After the statuettes are distributed, the stars continue their celebration at parties as TV viewers catch recaps of the honors on "E! After Party: The 2012 Academy Awards," airing today at 11:30 p.m. Back on ABC, "Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Academy Awards" kicks off at 12:05 a.m.
Finally, TV Guide Network lets you know which celebrities made the best-dressed list of the big night before on the "Academy Awards Red Carpet Fashion Wrap," airing Monday at 8 p.m., with actress and former Miss USA Ali Landry hosting the review with fashion designer Nick Verreos and hair stylist Tabatha Coffey.
