While grazing through my favorite craft store I had an epiphany to create an alternative Halloween themed party. Egypt is the land of great mystery, potions and curses, and it is the perfect backdrop and setup for a Halloween party. Although it’s not typically spooky or the go-to theme for Halloween themes, this could be a good alternative to the Harvest Celebrations or Ghost, Goblins and Graveyards spook fests.
The party can incorporate mummies, princesses, pharaohs, jesters and royalty. If you’re doing a formal party, have your invitations look like an old scroll and invite guests into your haunted tomb. As guests arrive use blue wrapping paper or fabric to line the walkway and on either sides of the path have a doll baby as Baby Moses. Have a sign or coffin prop in the yard that says “Welcome to DeNile (the last guests didn’t believe it either).” Use black and gold decorations, Mardi Gras beads as the jewels and have statues of pyramids and sphinxes. Now’s the time to pull out your oversized stuffed cat or lion that you won at the State Fair and your National Monument figurine add it as props to the event. Play Egyptian songs like “King Tut” and the infamous snake charming tune. Have a contest to see who can walk like an Egyptian.
For food, draw a treasure map on large tan box wrapping paper for the buffet table cloth or for the event backdrop. Label all food in hieroglyphics. Visit discoveringegypt.com for a quick hieroglyphics translator. Serve pharaoh’s punch (a catchy name for any punch) and use a cupcake stand to create a cupcake pyramid.
I know this was an after-thought, but save it for next year and your guests will enjoy the well preserved idea.
