What is that? You didn’t realize we had an off-season? Oh yes — those glorious months between November and March, when we get to run errands on Saturdays, join Pinterest and wear heels again.
It’s also time for reflection. Maybe it’s the smell of stuffing in the air, but we can’t help but also feel a bit warm and fuzzy as we defrost the annual turkey — thinking of all the things we’re thankful for as wedding season 2011 comes to a close.
So what had us giddy this season and wishing for more in 2012?
1. Glitter, and lots of it
This season was a return to glam, and you won’t find two people happier to put in an order for full-length sequin linens instead of yards of burlap.
2. Airbrush Foundation
First there was electricity, then the iPod and now, airbrush foundation. Our brides can finally stop fretting about their look as they makes their way up and down the aisle.
3. Kate Middleton
Is our girl crush as obvious to us as everyone else? Let’s face it — the Duchess rocked her wedding day from the tree-lined church to her two swoon worthy dresses. She brought class back to the industry before Kim Kardashian went ahead and took it right back.
4. Three Sheets to the Wind
We didn’t even know we needed to have yacht rock in our lives until this Richmond band stole our hearts. Their sailor hats manage to provide the perfect complement to a sea of tuxedos. Captain Max Powers, don’t be a stranger!
5. Cinematography
Not keen on the standard wedding video? Cinematography is taking wedding films to new heights. Now there will be no need to hide when you’re besty comes over with popcorn and a reminiscent look in her eye.
6. Ice Cream French Macarons
Just when we thought that our major sweet tooth was finally under control, Petites Bouchees goes out and gives us another reason to hit the gym daily.
7. Pinterest
Now that we’re on it, we can’t stop. Wedding inspiration abounds on this online addiction for those who (like us) never requested a Visa to join Farmville.
8. Espresso Martinis
Who knew you could unwind and charge back up all in one glass? We’ll take an efficient drink like this any day over a glass of bubbly.
9. Tapas Bars
Touted the “new buffet,” these little bits of wonderfulness let us remain blissfully in denial that there are real calories in those servings.
10. Professional Photographers
And last but certainly not least, we give thanks for bona fide, seasoned professional wedding photographers, who are with us to capture all of our very favorite details throughout the year. You may charge more than the $600 weekend warriors on Craigslist, but you are worth every single penny.
And we thank you, dear readers, for continuing on this Wedology 101 ride with us. May your 2012 wedding season be filled with glitter, tapas and an espresso martini to wash it all down.
