As I click through all my open browser windows, I see one discount after another. And if it's not a discount, the price for the piece in question is so ridiculous I ask myself how it can possibly be passed up.
The sales are endless, and that's exactly the type of style conundrum I want to find myself in.
Here's the next round of sale tips that are going to take your style-acquisition list over the edge.
1. (The tip to rule them all): The secret sale!
Typically occurring weekly, stores such as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue boast private sales available only with access by a special email link.
Each sale features pieces sold at 50 percent off (and sometimes more), but only for a narrow window of time. Neiman Marcus' Mid-Day Dash lasts two hours, Bloomingdale's bQuick lasts 12 hours and Saks' Fashion Fix typically lasts 24 hours. All you need to do is join their email distribution lists for access.
2. Bang for your buck.
When you are on a search for the most fabulous and creative clothes, jewelry, clutches and bags known to man, but don't want to spend an arm and a leg for them, then Etsy is the place to be.
Although this website seems daunting, once you get the hang of it and start finding designers you like, your only struggle will be putting down that credit card.
The key is finding a few designers you like and then seeing who they have listed as their favorites. Search through their favorites and you'll begin to find your own favorites. Begin with designers DrikaB, MirkaDesign, LittleHouses, and Kjoo.
Another great "bang for your buck" resource is Nordstrom Rack, which is now online. You'll consistently snag 7 For All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity jeans for $59 to $75.
3. Did you know?
It's never too late in the season for a sale. When you see something fabulous and the price is ridiculous, even if it's too late in the season to wear, buy it for next season. This holds true as long as the item is an essential (trench coat) versus a trend piece (bright-blue skinny jeans).
Some of the biggest discounts will come in pairs. If you want a great deal, you have to learn how to leverage the sale. Here's how: You pick one to three things at the beginning of the season that you absolutely love yet refuse to pay full price for. Then you wait for a piece on your list to go on sale, combine that sale price with the 10 percent off or birthday coupon you received for registering for email, and before you know it you just got 65 percent off.
The biggest pitfall to in-store shopping: You are at the mercy of the price tag. If you decide to buy it in-store, you miss the opportunity to price match it online.
Even local stores like Pink and Need Supply have websites, so you can still support your local stores while keeping the ability to price match.
The biggest pitfall to shopping online, and what I hear from every woman: "I can't try it on and I hate doing the return by mail." This is a temporary experience you face with online shopping. Once you get in the rhythm of online purchasing and find out what designers and sizes work best for you, you may come to find that the bulk of your purchasing takes place online.
Happy sale shopping!
