When we started planning for 2011 last year it quickly became apparent that one of the common threads that would run through the year was history. The biggest piece of the equation would be the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, but we also knew we would have significant anniversary stories on 9/11, Pearl Harbor, the Challenger explosion and Desert Storm. And Henricus, the Virginia Company of London's second settlement and planned successor to Jamestown, was established 400 years ago by Sir Thomas Dale in what is now Chesterfield County. And that's how "A Year of History" was born. The idea is that we will take a deeper look at some of the key events that shaped our lives and our world as we commemorate the anniversaries of the events.
