Richmond's new police chief, Bryan T. Norwood, is promoting a number of veteran police supervisors from the department to serve with him, according to law enforcement sources.
Maj. David McCoy, who served as interim police chief after the departure of Rodney Monroe to Charlotte/Mecklenburg County, N.C., has been named assistant police chief.
Capt. John Venuti, who was overseeing the major crimes division, has been promoted to the rank of major in charge of Support Services, which runs the department's investigative divisions.
Capt. Eric English, who was overseeing the Area 1 patrol division covering the first and second precincts, has been promoted to major with those responsibilities.
The promotions were announced yesterday morning at a staff supervisory meeting at police headquarters. They are expected to take effect this weekend.
Norwood started with the department Nov. 3. He previously served as police chief in Bridgeport, Conn.
