You've often read about how the late-night munchies can be hard on your waistline.
Turns out they can be downright dangerous as well.
Richmond police were investigating a robbery early today in which the victim was forced to give the perpetrator two recently purchased hot dogs.
No injuries were reported in the robbery, but the hot dogs were not recovered.
Capt. Linda Samuel said the victim told police that shortly after midnight, he was walking home after buying two hot dogs at the 7-Eleven at Harrison and Grace streets, near Virginia Commonwealth University's main academic campus.
The victim said he was on Hancock Street when he was approached from behind by someone who said he had a gun and wanted money.
When the victim told the robber he had just spent all his money on two hot dogs, the robber demanded the frankfurters.
The victim complied, and the perpetrator took off into the darkness.
No weapon was displayed, but police are treating the crime as a robbery.
"It was one of those deals where he said, 'Don't turn around. Give me everything you've got,' " Samuel said. "He may have had a gun. Who knows?"
