The latest poll for the 2009 Virginia gubernatorial race continues to show the Democratic primary candidates running closely with lots of voters undecided.
A poll released today shows Brian Moran leading among the three primary contenders. In the general election, the poll from Research 2000 and the Democratic blog Daily Kos, shows presumed Republican nominee Bob McDonnell ahead of each of the Democrats.
Its results relating to the primary generally track those reported in Public Policy Polling's late March survey.
Moran is fighting former Democratic National Committee chair Terry McAuliffe and Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, of Bath, for the Democratic nomination. If the party's primary were held today, the Daily Kos poll shows Moran with 24 percent of the vote, McAuliffe with 19 percent, Deeds with 16 percent and 41 percent undecided.
The poll was conducted by telephone April 6 - 8 of 600 likely voters who vote regularly in state elections. The margin of error is between four and five percent.
If the general election were held today, the poll shows McDonnell would beat each of the Democrats, the closest match up being with Moran -- 37 percent for McDonnell to 36 percent for Moran.
