A man was treated for a gunshot wound to the head this morning after someone opened fire on a vehicle in South Richmond.

Richmond police Lt. Marty Harrison said the 18-year-old man was treated at CJW Medical Center (Chippenham) for a graze wound and was later released.

The shooting occurred at 2:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Irby Drive, just east of Elizabeth D. Redd Elementary School, Harrison said.

The man told police he was a passenger in a car when another vehicle pulled up behind them and someone in that vehicle began shooting at their car, Harrison said.

No suspect information was available.
