Thomas Haynesworth has spent 25 years in a state prison after being convicted of rapes in Richmond and Henrico County.
Haynesworth has always claimed his innocence, and now a DNA test appears to clear him in the Richmond case, implicate an imprisoned serial rapist and raise unsettling questions about a yearlong series of attacks that the community and authorities thought had been solved long ago.
"I'm hoping for the best," said Haynesworth, 44, who is serving a 74-year sentence.
"It's hard, man," he told Times-Dispatch writer Frank Green in a jailhouse interview, when "nobody believes you."
