ALEXANDRIA -- Brian J. Moran has formally entered the race for the Democratic nomination for governor.

Moran officially announced his candidacy today in Alexandria at a rally with Northern Virginia supporters.

The former chairman of the House of Delegates' Democratic Caucus cited what he called his long record of fighting for families across Virginia and his efforts to raise the minimimum wage and expand health care.

Moran will square off in a Democratic primary against former Democratic national chairman Terry McAuliffe and state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds.

Republican Bob McDonnell is unopposed.

All four are seeking to succeed Gov. Timothy M. Kaine.
