Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, juggling his day job as Virginia's chief executive and part-time gig as Democratic national chairman, spent four of the past 10 days out of state.
Kaine's press secretary, Gordon Hickey, disclosed in an e-mail tonight that between July 22 and today, the governor had woven into his schedule trips to the Midwest and West Coast.
"The dates taken in aggregate represent a combination of state work, work in his role as chairman of the Democratic National Committee and personal time," said Hickey.
"The governor is engaged in state work every day."
From July 22-25, Kaine traveled to Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News and Williamsburg. On July 25, Kaine dashed from Richmond to Washington before heading to San Francisco.
The next day, he appeared in Seattle. On July 27, Kaine made stops in Portland, Ore., and Chicago. The following day, he left Chicago for Fairfax, before returning to Richmond.
From Wednesday until Friday, Kaine was in Fredericksburg and Richmond.
