The head of the state's licensing division for day-care centers and other social-service providers agreed today to revoke the license of the Yellow Brick Road Daycare and Learning Center of Richmond, which left a 13-month-old boy unattended in a van, where he died.
The decision accepts recommendations of state officials who investigated the death of Andrew Joseph Johnson. He died July 6 after seven hours in the center's van.
State law allows the center to remain open while it appeals the decision.
Earlier this month, a grand jury indicted the center's owner, Valerot Whitlow and her son, Keishawn L. Whitfield, the van driver. Whitlow was indicted for felony child neglect and Whitfield for involuntary manslaughter.
