Time running out on tax amnesty

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Delinquent taxpayers have only three more days to take advantage of the state's tax amnesty program.

Half of the normal interest charges and all of the penalties are waived if taxpayers pay up by the end of Saturday. Those who don't pay up will incur an additional 20 percent penalty.

Janie E. Bowen, the state tax commissioner, urged people not to wait until the last minute.

"This is when call times and, therefore, wait times at our call center and walk-in centers will be the highest," she said.

The tax office is keeping the call center open until 8 p.m. today and Friday and until midnight on Saturday.
