»  Comments | Post a Comment

The governors of Virginia and Maryland are asking the federal government for a big increase in funding to restore the Chesapeake Bay.

Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley are asking for $365 million in the federal fiscal year that begins in October 2010.

The figure represents roughly a 50 percent increase over current federal funding for the bay, officials said today.

The governors asked for the money in a Nov. 25 letter to President Barack Obama.
