Richmond police investigate injuries of man found unconscious in Fan

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Richmond police are investigating whether a man found seriously injured on a sidewalk in the Fan District on a cold, rainy morning was the victim of an aggravated assault.

Police said the unconscious man was found during a driving rain Sunday about 7:30 a.m. in the First block of North Mulberry Street.

The man had lost a significant amount of blood, and his body temperature was very low, police said.

The man may have been on the sidewalk since about 5 a.m. on a morning when temperatures struggled to get out of the 30s.

Police said the man was bleeding from the back of his head and had a wound that appeared as if it could have been caused by being struck with an unknown object.

Authorities transported the man to VCU Medical Center, where he was in critical but stable condition yesterday. He had not regained consciousness.

Police did not say whether the man's identity was known, and they declined to release any information about his appearance or clothing.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
