Three new ramps off southbound state Route 288 at Midlothian Turnpike/U.S. 60 are to open this afternoon.
Some drivers will face a new set of choices today as they exit state Route 288 for Midlothian Turnpike.
New ramps will open from southbound Route 288 at Midlothian Turnpike, or U.S. 60, at 3 p.m. The ramps reflect the development of the 640-acre Watkins Centre, including the Westchester Commons shopping center that is scheduled to open soon.
Nothing will change for motorists who want to head east on Midlothian Turnpike, but these are the other options for drivers as they exit southbound Route 288:
The first exit ramp will take them to Watkins Centre Parkway and Westchester Commons, with a connection to Village Bank and Otterdale Road on the south side of Midlothian Turnpike. The second exit ramp will take them west on Midlothian Turnpike, but they will not be allowed to turn left onto Otterdale Road from Midlothian. The third exit ramp will take them onto Otterdale Road south of the Watkins Centre interchange. The
Virginia Department of Transportation will place electronic message boards along the highway to help direct drivers to the right destinations. -- Michael Martz
