The White House has selected a University of Virginia law professor to serve in the No. 2 post at the Environmental Protection Agency.
If approved by the U.S. Senate, Jon Cannon will take a leave of absence from the law school while he serves as deputy administrator in the EPA. Lisa P. Jackson was sworn in as EPA administrator on Jan. 26.
Cannon is director of the law school's environmental and land-use law program. He served as EPA general counsel from 1995 to 1998 and held other positions within the EPA during the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. -- Karin Kapsidelis
