Richmond police today were searching for an injured driver who fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run near CJW Medical Center (Chippenham).
The crash occurred early this morning when a white Toyota and a dark-colored Ford Explorer collided against a jersey barrier at the Jahnke Road exit ramp off northbound Chippenham Parkway.
The driver of the Explorer was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, police said. The Toyota driver left before police arrived, authorities said.
Cmdr. John Hall said blood on the scene led authorities to believe the Toyota driver was injured.
"We're looking right now," Hall said shortly before dawn. "We're checking with area hospitals to see if this person shows up."
There was no suspect information, Hall said.

The identity of the Explorer driver was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The exit ramp was cleared and reopened by 5:30 a.m.
