Richmond Police are investigating two shootings that occurred downtown around 10 tonight.
The first took place around 9:50 at a nightclub near Fifth and Franklin streets, where a man was shot in the foot or ankle and went to VCU Medical Center in a private vehicle. The injury is not considered life threatening, said Capt. Gary Ladin.
Around 10:30 p.m., Richmond police officers on crowd control duty near Belvidere and West Broad streets heard shots fired near the New York Fried Chicken restaurant in the 500 block of West Broad. They came around the corner and saw a large group of people and two cars taking off out of the parking lot.
One vehicle was stopped next to the restaurant by Virginia Commonwealth University police, who found a firearm in the car. Richmond officers stopped the second vehicle in the 1200 block of West Broad. They found a firearm in that vehicle.
No one was injured and no damage was reported.
At least one person in each vehicle was taken into custody. Police are still investigating and charges are pending.
