A robber with a gun and another with a Taser robbed two people at a Monument Avenue apartment building and tried to break into another apartment this evening, police said.
The two armed men approached a man and woman about 6:25 p.m. at an apartment building at 3411 Monument Ave., said Richmond police Capt. Scott Booth.
The robbers tried to tie up the man but they stopped when he resisted, Booth said. They made off with a purse, cash and credit cards.
One or both robbers also kicked the door of another unit in the same apartment building, but the door didn't open. Witnesses saw the robbers leaving in a blue van, Booth said. Authorities found the van in South Richmond and arrested one suspect, later identified as John Johnson, 35.
Police say they have strong leads on Johnson's alleged accomplice.
No one was injured.
