Too many people are either paying too much for health care or are not getting it, Del. Jennifer McClellan, D-Richmond, said at a Richmond news conference today.
Pushing for President Barack Obama's plan to reform health care, McClellan acknowledged that "health-care reform will not work unless you find a way to control costs."
Organizing for America, which promotes the president's agenda, sponsored the news conference.
Representatives of the Fan Free Clinic, a free medical clinic, and two Richmond area residents with illnesses, who aren't being served by the current health-care system joined McClellan.
McClellan said 4.8 million Virginians now get health insurance through their employers and they pay an average of $13,302 a year in premiums. Family premiums have gone up almost 100 percent since 2000, she said.
