A 19-year-old man was being treated at VCU Medical Center this evening after being shot in the chest.
Richmond police units converged on the 2200 block of Redd Street near Mechanicsville Turnpike where they found the victim conscious and breathing about 5:15 p.m.
It was not clear where the man was shot, but nearby residents said they heard as many as a half-dozen shots fired.
About 50 people surrounded the crime scene within minutes of the shooting but quickly dispersed when police approached them for information.
The man's identity and condition were not immediately available.
