Free health clinics in 14 states will get a financial boost from Dominion Resources Inc.
Richmond-based Dominion announced today that it is giving $1 million in grants to 100 clinics in states where it operates: Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The funding will be distributed generally in proportion to the number of Dominion workers in each state. The donations are being made through the Dominion Foundation.
Dominion Chairman, President and CEO Thomas F. Farrell II was on hand for the announcement this morning at the Fan Free Clinic in Richmond.
The Fan Free Clinic, for example, is seeing more people than ever who rely on them for routine preventive care. “We’re becoming a medical home for people,” said John Baumann, the clinic’s executive director.
Holton praised Dominion's donation. “It’s a very healthy way to express your sympathy with what’s going on in the larger economy,” she told Farrell.
