A woman's body was found in a driveway in Richmond's West End shortly after dawn today, and homicide investigators gathered at the scene.

Police sealed off the area after the body was found at 6:14 a.m. in the driveway of the Ross-Smith Apartments at 3425 Kensington Ave.

Crime-scene technicians arrived at the scene shortly before 8 a.m. The Richmond police crash team was also called because the body was found on a road surface, police spokesman James Mercante said.

"We don't know yet what caused this woman's death," Mercante said shortly before 9 a.m., adding that authorities were classifying the matter as a death investigation.
