Toad's Place is currently closed.

A posting on the inside and outside walls of the live music club at 140 Virginia St. on the Canal Walk reads that due to "serious default in rental payment and other obligations . . . " the venue was closed today.

The notice comes from Kiniry and Co., the managing agents for Fulton Hill Properties, landlord for the building.

According to the posting, a notice of default was given to manager Charles Joyner on Feb. 20 and the "landlord exercises its right to re-enter the premises and remove Tenant from possession."

No shows are scheduled at the venue until Friday, when rapper Busta Rhymes is supposed to perform.

Highwater, the restaurant that adjoins Toad's Place, is also closed. Plastic sheeting covers the floors, and tables are scattered throughout. However, Highwater had been undergoing renovations to be re-invented as a gourmet burger restaurant.
