Two federal transportation agencies want to hear from Richmond-area residents about ways to improve regional transportation planning.

Officials from the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration will hold a public listening session today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission, 9211 Forest Hill Ave., Suite 200, Richmond.

The meeting is part of the quadrennial federal review of the region's transportation planning process conducted by the Richmond Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The group serves as the federally designated agency responsible for developing regional transportation plans and programs. The Virginia Department of Transportation, area local governments, GRTC, the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission and other transportation agencies are members of the group.

To arrange special-needs accommodations for the meeting, call (804) 323-2033.

Those unable to attend the listening session can mail their comments to Tammye Davis, community planner, Federal Highway Administration, 400 N. Eighth St., Suite 750, Richmond, VA 23219-4825. Comments can also be submitted by fax to (804) 775-3356, or by e-mail to tammye.davis@dot.gov.

The deadline to submit comments is April 24.
