Republican Ernesto Sampson is expected to announce a bid for the 69th House of Delegates seat tomorrow.
Three Democrats are seeking the nomination for the seat, which is anchored in south Richmond and includes part of Chesterfield County.
Del. Franklin P. Hall, a fellow Democrat, is vacating the seat. Gov. Timothy M. Kaine has named Hall to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
Sampson has worked as a financial adviser since shortly after graduating from Virginia Military Institute in 1998. He is a native Virginian.
"I'm not waiting for politicians to bring solutions," he says on his Web site. "I am running to take responsibility for our community, and that starts with more jobs and better schools."
The Democrats vying for the seat are Antione M. Green, president of the Richmond Crusade for Voters; Betsy Carr, a Richmond School Board member; and Carlos Brown, a corporate finance lawyer. The Democratic Party will decide whether its nominee is selected in a primary or a convention.
The 69th House district has an African-American majority.
