Anthem cutting 50 local IT jobs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

About 50 Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield jobs are being cut as parent company WellPoint Inc. plans to outsource its internal information technology help-desk functions.

In all, outsourcing the internal help-desk and desktop support services to Dell Inc. will mean about 100 job cuts at WellPoint, spokesman Scott Golden said.

WellPoint, a major employer in the Richmond area, told employees of the changes today.

About 50 of those jobs are at Anthem's offices in the Richmond area. Most of the other job cuts are in Indianapolis, WellPoint's home and where the company operates another corporate IT help-desk.

Employees are expected to remain for most of the summer until the transition is completed.

Affected employees can apply for other available jobs within WellPoint or possibly with Dell. Severance packages will be available.
