The family of slain Powhatan teen Tahliek Taliaferro today called on Gov. Timothy M. Kaine to send an observer to Thursday's sentencing of Ethan and Joseph Parrish and to launch an investigation into the case.
The cousins were convicted of involuntary manslaughter in last year's shooting death of Taliaferro. They had initially been charged with murder.
About a dozen of Taliaferro's family and friends gathered in downtown Richmond to express their outrage over the jury's verdicts on the lesser charges.
The plea to the governor comes days after Stephanie C. Reynolds, who faced a murder charge in Taliaferro's death, walked free after a plea agreement that found her guilty of three misdemeanors and cleared her of further jail time.
