Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, was in Arkansas yesterday while parts of Virginia coped with flooding.
Kaine, who appeared at a fundraiser in Little Rock with Gov. Mike Beebe, was scheduled to fly back to Virginia last night.
This morning, at the state's Emergency Operations Center on Midlothian Turnpike, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management will brief Kaine on the latest conditions around the state and on Virginia's response to the storm.
"The governor was and remains in constant contact and communication with his chief of staff, communications director, and other members of his emergency-management team," Kaine spokesman Gordon Hickey said.
Hickey said Kaine plans to tour the affected areas of the state tomorrow. Hickey said Kaine had exchanged dozens of calls and e-mails regarding the situation. "He is very up-to-date," Hickey said.
