Virginia’s gubernatorial candidates are on the agenda today at the Virginia Summit on Competitiveness and Higher Education.

Democrat Creigh Deeds and Republican Bob McDonnell will speak separately.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine is also scheduled to address the gathering, which will formally receive a report on the economic impact of the state’s public colleges.

An afternoon panel will include former Govs. Gerald L. Baliles and George Allen, as well as former Govs. Robert L. Ehrlick of Maryland and Michael F. Beasley of North Carolina.

The program is organized by the Virginia Business Higher Education Council, a group campaigning for increased support for colleges and universities.
