Virginia health officials have ordered 265,000 doses of swine flu vaccine, enough to allow planned clinics to go on as planned.
Federal officials Friday said production delays mean there will be less vaccine than expected nationally by the end of the month. Instead of 40 million doses, there will be 28 million to 30 million doses.
Dr. Karen Remley, Virginia Health Commissioner, said the state is near the top of the list of states placing vaccine orders and turning around vaccine so that it gets to patients.
Flu activity is widespread nationally, and federal officials described the number of children getting sick as "sobering."
Eighty-six children have died of swine flu in the United States since it burst on the scene last spring -- 43 of those deaths were reported in September and early October alone,
