An off-duty Henrico County police officer will serve 10 days in jail after a judge convicted him yesterday of driving under the influence.
J.L. Crain, 30, pleaded no contest to the drunken-driving chargestemming from a Sept. 20 accident in western Henrico at 1:30 a.m. Crain showed a blood-alcohol concentration of .28 percent, more than three times the limit and one that carries a mandatory jail sentence.
Crain also will lose his license for a year and was fined $250. General District Judge John Marshall sentenced Crain to six months in jail with all but 10 days suspended.
Crain, who once worked with a unit that investigated underage drinking, called Party Crashers, will report to jail Oct. 30.
Toni M. Randall, who is an assistant commonwealth's attorney in Richmond, prosecuted the case.
